BLOGS TYDLYN

Elsa:

Transformasie Konsternasie

Dié artikel  in The Guardian beaam dit.

Dame Helen volg natuurlik in die onvergelyklike Jane Fonda (76) se voetspore by L’Oreal.

1. Annamart van der Merwe, aktrise

2. Jana Celliers, aktrise

3. Sandra Prinsloo, aktrise

4. Michélle van Breda, redakeur van SARIE

5. Marianne Campbell, oudmodel en skoonheidskrywer

6. Terena le Roux, redakteur van IDEES

7. Leigh Toselli, oudmodel, skoonheidskrywer, modestilis

8. Alayne Reesberg, uitvoerende hoof (CEO) van Cape Town World Design Capital 2014

9. Wendy Luhabe, sakevrou

Oy veh.

Wat dink jy?

Daniela:

Elsa, kudos to L’Oréal Paris for choosing Helen Mirren as a spokesperson. They’ve come a long way since they put Isabella Rossellini (Lancôme’s ‘face’ for 14 years) out to pasture at age 40 in the early Nineties. I was so upset at the time (when I was in my 20s) because, for me, she epitomised beauty.

It clearly stung for her, as she confided in an interview with Vogue a decade later: ‘They sent me so many flowers on my 40th birthday, it was a morgue,’ …’I knew I was dead. They said, “Be grateful Isabella. You’re lucky you lasted so long in the business”.’

Last year, at age 60, she told Huffington Post, ‘I wish to model today, but there are no models who can work [in their] sixties.’

Isabella Rossellini

Hmmm. I wonder if L’Oréal would consider a comeback now? That would be a satisfactory conclusion. I doubt it, though, as Isabella has clearly never undergone a nip and tuck. She once said: ‘I don’t think I’ll do it. It’s too late. My mother [the divine Ingrid Bergman] once told me that growing older was the only way to have a long life. So my attitude is, of course we are ageing. And it’s natural, and it’s beautiful.’

I’ve loved L’Oréal’s campaigns with Jane Fonda, who is incredible at any age, but it irks that they Photoshop her to such an extent. That made me so impressed with La Mirren’s stand about retouching her images (and the fact that L’Oréal have accepted this). She understands the significance of using her face as role model. The Guardian reports that she hopes ‘she would “inspire other women towards greater confidence” by making the most of their looks.

She’s one of those women who looks better and better with age, and she knows how to make the best of herself. The difference between her and Isabella is that she’s not as happy as Isabella to let her looks go gently into the good night at age 70.

As reported in the Express, ‘she is not quite satisfied with her looks as she moves into her more advanced years – and is considering undergoing the plastic surgeon’s knife “very, very soon”.’ However, she ‘stressed she did not want to end up looking “ridiculous”.’

I was quite surprised to hear that she hasn’t had surgery, but maybe she’s just had very good non-invasive procedures in the past. Or maybe she got very lucky with her genes. Either way, I find her attitude towards surgery healthy. She’s not doing it to bow to pressure, but to please herself.

I think we should campaign to make the Helen Mirren campaign global. And we should definitely encourage L’Oréal SA to get their own campaign. I love your candidates! I would also add Leleti Khumalo (44).

Yet another encouraging sign of a shift in ageism is the use of mature models (read late-thirties plus) on the catwalks of Paris, notably at Jean Paul Gaultier’s swansong of his ready-to-wear collections (sob!), and Lanvin’s 125th Anniversary show.

Rounding back neatly to Renee Zellweger… I agree wholeheartedly with you. She’s lost her unique look, sadly. She said in an interview all this was a result of hard work and healthy lifestyle.

Really??? We weren’t born yesterday, honey.

Donatella Versace se Drogvoorkoms

Donatella

Donatella Versace vandeesweek

Toe kon ek glad nie weer slaap nie…
